Term Limits Petition Circulating in Grapevine

Young parents, professionals, and grandparents from across the partisan political spectrum are signing and circulating petitions for term limits in Grapevine. Citing a lack of accountability and transparency, this coalition of Grapevine voters is working to remove entrenched council members who are no longer accountable to residents.

“Incumbents have won every city council election in Grapevine for the past 30 years. With that kind of record, city council members have no pressure to vote on principle. They know they’ll be re-elected regardless of their actions. There is no accountability, and nobody is listening to the citizens,” said Julie McCarty of the NE Tarrant Tea Party.

Nearly two-dozen of Grapevine’s neighboring cities govern with term limits including Southlake, Lewisville, Bedford, Carrollton, Trophy Club, and Irving.

The petition language asks registered Grapevine voters:

Should the Grapevine City Charter be Amended to State:
Each person duly elected to the position of Mayor or Council Member shall be
allowed to hold any one position for a limit of three (3) consecutive, full three-year
terms per position. This provision shall apply to all elections held subsequent to
the adoption of this Charter Amendment.

“In neighboring cities, transparency and accountability in government are top priorities. They open their books so taxpayers can see exactly where their money is going. Why not in Grapevine?” asked recent City Council candidate Kathleen Thompson. Grapevine residents deserve citizen legislators, not career politicians, who will put the community and city employees before themselves.

Voters wanting to sign the petition should visit www.bettergrapevine.org.

True The Vote Rally In Austin on December 13th

To Set The Record Straight About Eric Holder, The DOJ, and the UN

HOUSTON, TX – At 4PM, on Tuesday, December 13, at the LBJ Library in

Austin, Texas, TRUE THE VOTE will rally with fellow patriots to set the

record straight about U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, his Department

of Justice, and the interference of the United Nations in elections in the

United States. The planned rally is to focus on Holder’s intention to use

the DOJ to push a progressive and racial agenda on our elections and on

efforts by other progressive organizations to include foreign forces in our

electoral process.

Attorney General Eric Holder will be at the LBJ Library in Austin, Texas on

December 13 to make speak on the importance of ensuring equal voting

rights. Yet, Holder is loathe to preclear voter integrity projects as well as

voter identification requirements in Texas, South Carolina and other

states.

Further, the UK Guardian reported on December 5 that the National

Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has

petitioned the United Nations to involve itself in elections in the United

States with the false claim that election reform advocates are attempting

to suppress the voting rights of minorities.

Eric Holder and the NAACP stand against Texas plans for redistricting and

its Voter Photo ID laws. Free and fair elections are at risk.

See Rally Announcement Here

TRUE THE VOTE is a national election integrity project based in Houston,

TX, led by Catherine Engelbrecht. Its purpose is to equip citizens for

involvement at every stage of our electoral process and to actively

protect the rights of legitimate voters regardless of party affiliation.

MATT BEEBE TO DECLARE HIS CANDIDACY FOR TEXAS HOUSE DISTRICT 121

Contact: Adam McManus, Communications Director, 210.373.7499, adam@VoteBeebe.com

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, December 9, 2011 – Matt Beebe (pronounced BEE-bee) will officially announce his candidacy for Texas State House Representative in District 121 in the GOP primary at a press conference on Monday, December 12, 2011. The event will be held at 12 noon at The Quarry Golf Club, 444 East Basse Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209. (Heavy appetizers will be served.)
Beebe will face-off against Texas House Speaker Joe Straus on Tuesday, March 6, 2012.
“It’s time that the constituents of House District 121 had a true conservative represent them in Austin,” said Beebe, 38, who founded Digitactics, Inc., a small business that was recently named by the San Antonio Business Journal as one of the top ten “Largest San Antonio Computer Service & Repair Firms.” In additional to providing jobs for 13 employees, Digitactics is a leader in developing and implementing cyber defense, cyber security, digital forensics and IT networking solutions for small and mid-sized businesses and various government customers.
A graduate of Michigan Technical University with a B.S. in Business Administration, Beebe served his country in the Air Force as a Communications Officer and helped to develop innovative solutions and lay a foundation for enhanced cyber defense while a Countermeasures Engineer at the Air Force Information Warfare Center at Kelly AFB.
He has been married to his wife Nicole for 16 years with whom he’s adopted their two children – Hannah, 5, and Joshua, 3. In addition to home educating their children with his bride, Beebe is a member and regularly attends the Alamo Heights United Methodist Church where he has served on the Administrative Board, Board of Stewards and as a Sunday School teacher for the Foundations young couples class. They generously support other area non-profits directly and through their business.
“As a small business owner, I understand well the challenges of this tough economy. We are not only taxed too much, but the reality is that the Texas Legislature spends too much,” said Beebe. “I’m committed to reducing the burden of government on the families of House District 121, and, like I’ve done in the private sector, finding innovative solutions to enable Texas to meet the challenges of the future.”
Over the next several weeks, Matt Beebe will outline his vision at his campaign website: www.VoteBeebe.com

Vicki Truitt’s Classic Hits to the Texas Taxpayer

Posted December 1st, 2011 by Fred

A Summary of Vicki Truitt’s Legislative Career

80th Session (and prior)

  • Vicki Truitt voted for HB 3588, the 310-page bill with 95 amendments which created the underlying legal framework for the Trans Texas Corridor. (78th Session)
  • Vicki Truitt voted for HB 109. This legislation changed eligibility requirements for receiving the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and essentially unraveled the 2003 welfare reforms. The Legislature approved $2 billion in funding for the program, a $1 billion increase. This bill allowed people who are 200% above the federal poverty level to be eligible for coverage under the state-funded CHIP program.
  • Vicki Truitt voted to table the Howard Amendment to HB 109, an amendment to prevent the loosening of asset eligibility calculations. The amendment was tabled, meaning it will be easier for those not truly needy to qualify for taxpayer-funded assistance.
  • Vicki Truitt voted for HB 2237. This High School Completion and Success Initiative dedicates $120 million to dropout prevention. The 79th Legislature allocated $1 billion to the same purpose and the Texas Center for Education Policy and LULAC played an important part in the passage of this bill.
  • Vicki Truitt voted for HB 3778. This bill levied a “Granny Tax” on nursing home residents. The “granny tax” or quality assurance fee, which was $5 per bed per day, was justified in that it would be matched by the federal government ($300 million) and returned to the State. “This is a tax on the people that could least afford it,” Senator Jane Nelson said of the bill. “It’s a tax on elderly people who are using their life savings to keep their loved one in a nursing home.”
  • Vicki Truitt co-authored HB 2084. This bill would have used a sales tax increase to fund the Regional Rail Corridor (mass transit) while doing nothing to end the current gasoline tax diversions.
