We are headed to Austin! The official NETTP "kickoff" trip is on! It will be Tuesday, Feb. 26. We expect a large group, so we'll probably rent a bus, and there will be a fee for that. We always try to make our trips free of charge - but buses are expensive, so we'll need folks to chip in for it. Not sure yet what the fee will be as Fran is still getting quotes, but rest assured, we'll keep it as low as possible!
So mark your calendars now! The trip will include:
*A very early start (about 5:00 am) at a convenient meet up place in the DFW area.
*Fun, fellowship, and games on the bus driving to Austin
*A tour of the Capitol building
*Meeting with YOUR legislators to tell them about NETTP and our legislative priorities for the 86th session
*Observe House and/or Senate in session
*Visit the Capitol Gift Shop for souvenirs (if you wish)
*A tour of the Supreme Court building by Judge Bert Richardson, Kevin P Yeary, David Newell, Criminal Court of Appeals (and possibly others)
*A visit to the Capitol Visitors' Center (a museum of Texas History and the oldest state office building)
*A Capitol Scavenger Hunt (with prizes!)
*Sleepy time on the bus ride home
*Complete satisfaction in knowing you spent your day learning about your State Legislature, State History, and how to be an effective Citizen Advocate
Kids are welcome if accompanied by a responsible adult. You will do lunch on your own - either buy a lunch at the Capitol Grill inside the Capitol, or bring a brown bag lunch.
You do NOT have to have gone through training in order to join us. This is a great opportunity to be a part of our team, get familiar with the Capitol, and see if you want to join in next time!
