NETTP Meetings
Posted June 6th, 2011 by Julie
Patriots,
Conservatives across Texas spent the last several months fighting to stop bad bills from being passed, and fighting for some good bills. The write-up below tells us how successful we were. I encourage you to check it out. Also, there’s information below on a conference call you can dial in to for a discussion on this same topic on Wednesday evening. It’s important that we stay aware of how our State Reps and State Senators voted on issues important to us so that we know how to vote in the next primary.
If you have interest in an NETTP meeting focused on discussing this session of the State legislature, please let me know. We have been tossing around the idea of a meeting to discuss what did and didn’t pass, as well as what are the results (so far) of redistricting. Is this a meeting you would attend? It would be on Saturday morning, June 25.
Thanks,
Julie

IMMEDIATE RELEASE
It’s a wrap: New laws sell Texas to the highest bidder
TURF analysis of 82nd regular session of the Texas Legislature
(Austin, TX, June 3, 2011) - Texans thought they sent a message to politicians of all political stripes last November — we’re fed-up with out of control taxation, debt, spending, and big government and politicians who proceed on that course do so at their own peril. While Governor Rick Perry tried to convince tea partiers and grassroots conservatives that he took up the mantle of limited government and low taxes by declaring certain pet issues as “emergency items” in the 82nd regular legislative session, there’s plenty of evidence that the Governor and the Legislature’s priorities don’t remotely resemble those of the electorate (the water rights heist, making Texas the repository for the nation’s nuclear waste, and the original ‘loser pays’ tort reform bill are just a few examples, many more to follow).
Whether it was Voter ID, eminent domain reform, or the sonogram bill, such grassroots hot button issues got watered down demonstrating it was more about political pandering and serving up red herrings to distract the grassroots than about meaningful reform. Yet, bills that had massive grassroots support, like ending tolling existing roads, gas tax diversions, groping TSA patdowns, and naked body airport scanners, all failed to pass. With all the GOP talk of throwing off federal government interference in Texas, the Texas Senate cratered to threats from the Justice Departmentto make Texas a no-fly zone if it passed the patdown ban. Guess all that huffing and puffing amounted to mere election-year rhetoric.
Texas landowners need not apply
The author of SB 18, the eminent domain bill, Sen. Craig Estes called it a carefully brokered deal with special interests, brokered behind closed doors before the session even started, and Texas property owners weren’t invited. The bill does NOTHING to protect landowners from having their land taken and handed to another private party in the name of a laundry list of ‘public uses,’ the cornerstone of the landmark Kelo case from which Texans remain unprotected. SB 18 also fails to protect property owners from eminent domain for economic development and blight, and that’s by design based on what the Legislature had in store later.
Name your price & they’ll sell you Texas
A steady stream of bills to sell-off Texas infrastructure to private corporations flooded the pipeline during the 82nd regular session, the key bill being SB 1048 to authorize state and local governments to privatize virtually every kind of public infrastructure (except roads) and charge user fees or lease payments for the public to access its own buildings: schools, hospitals, nursing homes, water supply facilities, ports, mass transit, libraries, even telecommunications and pipelines.

Apostle Claver to speak to NETTP on June 13 at 6:00pm along with US Senate Candidate Roger Williams
We’ve all noticed that many African-Americans hold conservative beliefs but overwhelmingly vote for Democrats. Well, Apostle Claver’s group RagingElephants works to identify and convert what he calls “hidden conservatives. Those camouflaged by race or neighborhood.” His group has conducted polls that show 80 percent of African-Americans agree with conservative principles on social, fiscal and national defense issues. He wants constitutional conservatives elected at every level of government and plans to do this through voter education and citizen activism.
Apostle Claver came to my area and spoke to my group. I had heard of the Raging Elephants and Apostle Claver and was interested in hearing his view point. Neither I nor the crowd were disappointed. He is a very dynamic speaker and his message is one I hope spreads far and fast. He presents accurate facts and drives them home in a way that is rarely encountered.
A born-again Christian, Apostle Claver Kamau-Imani is the founder and senior pastor of the Corinthian Christian Empowerment Center (CCEC) in Houston. His work with the Tea Parties as well as other conservative groups has enabled them to confront the racial stereotypes being charged against conservatives.
Remember:
The worst thing a liberal can do is stand in the path of a herd of stampeding Raging Elephants!

NE Tarrant Tea Party meeting
Guest Speakers: Brian Prasika & Patrick McClanahan
on Flat Tax & Fair Tax.. and Cain’s 999 Plan
and
an Interview with US Senate Candidate Tom Leppert
October 10, 2011, 6:30-8:00pm
$5 chicken finger dinner served at 6pm
1060 E Highland, Southlake 76092
(bldg 1020 of Highland Meadow Montessori Academy)
Brian will provide an overview of the flat tax and the fair tax plans… and he’s agreed to add something about Herman Cain’s 999 Plan. Though he will cover all options, he will focus mostly on Fair Tax as he represents the Fair Tax Organization. Come learn the difference between the plans and how we can help bring change to our current Federal tax system.
The FairTax is a comprehensive proposal that establishes a national sales tax of 23% on all new goods and services sold in the Unites States. It simultaneously abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, as well as all national gift, estate, capital gains, dividend, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare and self-employment taxes. With no reason to exist, the IRS would effectively be abolished. A universal prebate would ensure that no citizen living below the poverty line pays the FairTax.
The FairTax:
- Enables workers to keep their entire paychecks
- Enables retirees to keep their entire pensions
- Refunds in advance the tax on purchases of basic necessities
- Allows American products to compete fairly
- Brings transparency and accountability to tax policy
- Ensures Social Security and Medicare funding
- Closes all loopholes and brings fairness to taxation
- Abolishes the IRS
Brian Prasifka is an independent benefits’ consultant for small and mid-sized businesses in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, where he has lived since graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Business Administration in 1994. Brian is the volunteer District Director for FairTax.org in the 6th Congressional District, and is an active member of the Texas Exes, the Fort Worth Club and the Amon Carter Museum.
Patrick McClanahan is a small business owner in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area and a 1990 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in Advertising. He is the volunteer District Director for FairTax.org for the 12th Congressional District. He and his wife Tanya reside in Fort Worth and are active in the Texas Exes, Amon Carter Museum, the Fort Worth Opera and Fort Worth Symphony Vivace.

NE Tarrant Tea Party meeting
Guest Speaker: Allen Clark on Civilizational Jihad
September 12, 2011, 6:30-7:00pm
$5 dinner served at 6pm
1060 E Highland, Southlake 76092
(bldg 1020 of Highland Meadow Montessori Academy)
Allen Clark will speak to us on “Civilizational Jihad”… internal subversion and treason, broader than Sharia Law.
About Allen Clark…
After attending Phillips Exeter Academy, Allen graduated the United States Military Academy in 1963, after which he was commissioned in the Army Corps of Engineers. Two years after graduation from West Point, he volunteered for a tour in Vietnam where he served as a Military Intelligence officer assigned to the Fifth Special Forces Group. Allen sustained injuries in an early-morning mortar attack at the Dak To Special Forces camp on June 17, 1967, that necessitated the amputation of both legs below his knees. His military service and sacrifice were recognized with receipt of a Silver Star for Gallantry in Action, the Purple Heart, and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. He was airborne-qualified.
While learning to adjust to his disability and to walk on prosthetic legs, he obtained an MBA in finance and investments from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Allen’s first post-graduate position was as an investment manager for Ross Perot. His other private sector experience has spanned oil and gas exploration, real estate marketing, and mortgage lending. He has been vice president of a bank, president of three oil service companies, and co-founder of a real estate investment company in Texas.
Allen’s impassioned commitment to public service and to helping veterans began with an appointment in 1979 as the Special Assistant for Administration to Texas Governor William P. Clements, Jr. In 1981, Allen was President Ronald Reagan’s selection to be Deputy Administrator for the Veterans Administration (now the Department of Veterans Affairs). However, he chose to remain in Texas where in 1982 he received the Texas Republican Party’s nomination to run for State Treasurer in a race that was won by former Texas State Governor Ann Richards.
In 1989, he was nominated by President George H.W. Bush and confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Assistant Secretary for Veterans Liaison and Program Coordination at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. In 1991, he received his second VA confirmation as Director of the National Cemetery System, a position in which he served until the end of the Bush Administration.
Allen’s dedicated efforts to support veterans’ causes at the national and state levels were recognized with his nomination by the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) organization as the Texas State candidate for the national Outstanding Disabled Veteran of the year 2000. In 1993 the Military Chaplains Association awarded him their annual National Citizenship Award.”
He retired in 2005 as the Public Affairs Officer for the VA North Texas Health Care System in Dallas, Texas. His current lay ministry is involved in outreach efforts to help veterans recover emotionally and spiritually from adverse wartime experiences. Allen participates in many community and civic activities, including regularly speaking at various group events and churches. Allen has addressed many audiences nationwide as a political candidate, public official, and motivational speaker. Allen’s autobiography titled “Wounded Soldier, Healing Warrior” was published in early 2007 by Zenith Press (visit book site).
He is a member of the American Legion, Association of the U.S. Army, Disabled American Veterans, Military Order of the World Wars, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Military Officers Association, Sons of the American Revolution, Special Forces Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Association of Graduates of the U.S. Military Academy, and Vietnam Veterans of America.
Allen and his wife, the former Linda Frost, are members of Christ Church, Plano, TX. Allen can be contacted by sending an email to allenbclark@aol.com.

About Brandon Darby…
Brandon Darby
Brandon Michael Darby is an activist who rose to international recognition for his role in co-founding and directing the Common Ground Relief organization in New Orleans’ 9th Ward in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Though once a prominent radical who worked with former Black Panther Party members, Palestinian and various other radical groups, his experiences led him to have a deep love for his country and to feel an obligation to support and protect its system. He once again gained international recognition for his role as an undercover operative in the FBI’s Informant/Human Source Program, working with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and having directly participated in stopping violence against U.S. and Israeli citizens. Furthermore, his public stance of being proud to have served with the FBI and his refusal to be silent and enter the Witness Protection Program has been a source of controversy and outrage amongst radical Leftist groups.
His work and efforts have been profiled in hundreds of print, radio, and television interviews. He has been a subject of numerous documentaries.
He currently resides in his home state of Texas and continues with his passion to investigate and expose groups and individuals who intend harm to the United States, though he now does so as a private citizen. He has become a staunch ally and advocate for the FBI’s use of informants and for the role they play in the frontlines of keeping citizens rights and safety protected.

Join us to watch the movie 33 Minutes. It’s about an hour long, and we’ll start at 6:30pm at 1060 E Highland in Southlake 76092 (bldg 1020 of Highland Meadow Montessori Academy).
About 33 Minutes
Protecting America in the New Missile Age
33 Minutes: Protecting America in the New Missile Age is a one-hour documentary produced by The Heritage Foundation that tells the story of the very real threat foreign enemies pose to every one of us. The truth is brutal – no matter where on Earth a missile is launched from it would take 33 Minutes or less to hit the U.S. target it was programmed to destroy.
Nuclear proliferation around the world, and the threat of a ballistic missile attack of some kind is mounting as more and more countries obtain nuclear technology. The ongoing threat toward America is also accelerating due to the fact that there are many rogue nations and terrorist organizations who either have or are seeking ballistic missiles and nuclear technology.
The challenges of protecting America and its citizens for President Obama’s administration are great. Featuring rare footage and in-depth interviews with leading experts in the field, 33 Minutes is the definitive documentary exposing the untold vulnerability we all face and the action plan necessary to revive a strategic missile defense system that America uniquely can develop, maintain, and employ for its own defense and the peace-loving world’s security.

We’ve got an unbelievable night planned for April 11. You MUST be there, and you MUST invite every voter in NE Tarrant County that you can.
NE Tarrant County Municipal Candidate Fair & Straw Poll
1060 E Highland, Southlake TX 76092
6-7pm – fair and straw poll (polls close immediately at 7pm)
7:15-7:30 – Lela Pittenger, candidate for US Senate
7:30-8:30 – Michael Badnarik on the Federal Reserve and fiat money
8:30 – straw poll results announced
First, from 6-7pm we’ll have a candidate fair. We’ve invited the contested candidates from all our cities to set up tables and meet the voters one on one (scroll down to see the list of those who have confirmed attendance). NO CANDIDATE SPEECHES! We’ll be handing out their answers to our tea party questionnaire, AND we’ll be conducting a straw poll. Join us and decide for yourself who to vote for. All politics start locally! And remember, the key to a successful candidate fair and straw poll is to have a lot of people there! Invite everyone you can! Post it to your Facebook pages too!
We’ll be offering two slices of pizza and a drink for $5 at this event (while supplies last), so don’t worry about dinner. Just get to the fair before the polls close!
Then at 7:15 we’ll hear from our first US Senate candidate, Lela Pittenger. Between now and October, we’ll have one candidate at each of our monthly meetings. We’ll ask each of them the same pre-determined questions of concern to tea party members. Let’s get to know them and make an educated decision on who should receive our votes and our support.
At 7:30 we’ll start our presentation on the Federal Reserve and fiat money. This is a huge topic in the US right now as we watch the value of our dollar decrease world-wide. Our speaker is the reknowned Michael Badnarik of Constitution Preservation, an expert on this topic.
At 8:30 we’ll announce the winner of our straw poll.
I told you… it’s going to be a packed night. You don’t want to miss one moment of it!
CANDIDATE RSVP LIST
Wanna know which candidates have committed to attending the candidate fair? Click here. You’ll also be able to see who has completed the NETTP questionnaire and who has signed NETTP’s transparency pledge.
CANDIDATE FAIR PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Municipal Candidates Get a Candidate Fair and Straw Poll
On April 11, 2011, citizens from eleven NE Tarrant County cities will be able to come to one location to meet and question candidates running for mayor, city council and school boards in their respective cities. This Candidate Fair will be held at the Highland Meadow Montessori Academy gym: 1060 E. Highland, Southlake TX 76092, and will be from 6:00 – 7:00p.m.
Candidates will be available to answer citizens’ questions and will have the chance to provide literature with their positions on issues. In addition, each candidate has been asked to fill out a questionnaire that will be available at the Fair and online (www.NETarrantTeaParty.com). Once voters have had the chance to speak to the candidates, they will enjoy voting in the Straw Poll that will be set up. The winners of the Straw Poll will be announced at the end of the night’s events, so everyone will want to stick around for those winner announcements.
The NE Tarrant Tea Party represents Grapevine, Southlake, Colleyville, Hurst, Euless, Bedford, Keller, North Richland Hills, Richland Hills, Watauga, and Haltom City and has invited all contested race candidates from these cities to attend this event. Because we strive for an informed electorate and know that all politics begins at home, we are excited to host this event for these communities. We urge all citizens to come, meet and question these candidates so that they can decide who they will vote for in these important elections. Election day is May 14th, 2011.
Immediately following the night’s Candidate Fair and Straw Poll will be a presentation by Michael Badnarik on the Federal Reserve System. All are invited to attend!
Posted April 3rd, 2011 by Fred
The NE Tarrant Tea Party submitted a questionnaire to all municipal and school board candidates in our area of coverage for our upcoming Candidate Fair on April 11. Here’s a sampling of some of the answers we’ve received so far from the municipal candidates:
Q: Will you oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes?
Fort Worth City Council Dist. 2 Race-
As I have stated, no more taxing. I will FIGHT to lower taxes and spur growth. Paul Rudisill
… During tough budget cycles, we asked each department to cut back 10% and we made very difficult decisions to reduce positions and departments. However, citizens and taxpayers are supportive of certain services which they deem vital and will not support draconian cuts… Sal Espino
Q: Which programs would you cut in the city, and which ones would you grow?
Southlake City Council Place 1-
I would cut any non-essential services that the citizens deem unnecessary. The citizen’s survey indicates areas where there could be cuts. I would grow our inter local agreements with our neighbor cities and counties, advocate more joint use with our school districts and look for other areas to economize to save our tax payers’ money. Martin Schelling
NRH Council Place 7-
There are no programs I would cut at this time. I would look at Economic Development to see what can be done to insure business growth. All programs need to be monitored during the budget year. Charles Spradling
Keller City Council Place 6-
Keller did an efficiency study that I have tried to obtain, but they will not release it to the general public (it deals with personnel). They used the study to cut 19 positions last year, but I believe there is more waste included in the study. Once elected, I plan to use that study to find and cut waste. Doug Miller
Bedford City Council Place 6-
I would cut the recreational facility OVER spending. It’s way too much while we have rusty pipes and live wires sticking out of the ground and eroding sewers, still, after a 12% sewer rate increase. We must attack our basic city services. It’s showing that the council isn’t paying enough attention and isn’t getting a little dirty themselves. This is more than a ribbon cutting we are talking about… Sarah Sisson
Q: What is one burning issue that prompted you to run for this position?
Colleyville City Council Place 4-
The budget shortfall of approximately 2 million dollars for 2011. Scott Gunnip
Q: Do you support having a minimum percentage of school district payroll expenses of professional staff be full-time classroom teachers? If so, what minimum percentage would you support?
Carroll ISD Trustee Place 3-
I’m not certain there is some magic number out there that would fit every district and I think past legislative efforts (65% Rule) illustrate this. That being said, I’m an advocate for smaller class sizes. However, smaller class sizes mean more teachers, which means increased expenses. Sue Armstrong
Q: What else would you like voters to know about you?
Carroll ISD Trustee Place 3-
I will make every effort to repeal the “no test papers returned to students” Carroll ISD policy and demand that the school board instruct teachers to allow students & parents to see what the student did wrong (or right) and to show parents progress or set backs as they happen. Carroll’s Public Education Mission Objective #1 is: “Parents will be full partners with educators in the education of their children.” It is my learned opinion that Carroll ISD violates this Objective by refusing to include parents as full partners and return graded test papers to students and parents. This MUST stop now! Keith Houser
Q: What are your top three recommendations in handling the current financial issues facing the ISD?
Carroll ISD Trustee Place 2-
(1) Carroll ISD has increased non-instructional spending over 25% in the last five years with only 2% enrollment growth. We must examine these increases and aggressively reduce our administrative spending.
(2) Carroll ISD must limit future spending growth. Any increase in spending in a specific area must be fully paid for by savings in other areas.
(3) Carroll ISD must aggressively pursue non-tax measures to increase revenue. Other Robin Hood payer districts have been very successful using charitable organizations and cooperative efforts with local business to increase revenue without raising taxes. Fred Stovall
Our Candidate Fair will be held at the Highland Meadow Montessori Academy gym: 1060 E. Highland, Southlake TX 76092, on April 11th from 6:00 – 7:00p.m.
Candidates will be available to answer citizens’ questions and will have the chance to provide literature with their positions on issues. In addition, each candidate’s questionnaire will be available at the Fair and online (www.NETarrantTeaParty.com). Once voters have had the chance to speak to the candidates, they will enjoy voting in the Straw Poll. The winners of the Straw Poll will be announced at the end of the night’s events, so everyone will want to stick around for those winner announcements.

Patriots,
NE Tarrant Tea Party is a grassroots organization. This means that ALL efforts come from everyday people like you and me. Ideas, tasks, goals… all are managed by the members, not by one leader. It’s what makes the tea party movement SO effective, and, frankly, so hard to tear down.
But being a grassroots movement only works if the people stay involved! We have a few members who have really stepped up with some great ideas that they are seeing through. Here they are. Please work with them if you can!
- NETTP member Janna Easton has a goal to get rid of Todd Smith as her State Representative. (I share this passion, by the way, and I know many of you do too!). Rather than sit around and wait for someone else to do something about it, she started collecting names and email addresses of those who want to join in this effort. She’s been in touch with each of them and held meetings. If you want to be a part of this, please contact her at jeaston4444@commonsensecitizens.net.
- NETTP member Roger Beatty learned a very inexpensive and effective way to advertise to a targeted audience about Obama. His goal is to make sure Obama does NOT get re-elected in 2012! He advertises via Facebook, and he’s looking for others who would be willing to multiply his efforts. He’ll teach you how. It will cost $5-$10-$15 or so (you set the amount), and he says the rewarding feeling you get as you watch reactions to your own ad is well worth the money. It’s a fun, easy, satisfying and effective part to play in saving America. If you are interested in learning more, contact Roger at 817-488-9162 or Roger.Beatty@commonsensecitizens.net. Don’t worry about having creative ad skills. You just have to be able to type.
- NETTP member Pat Ray heard Glenn Beck’s call for a Mobfest Food Drive on April 21 and she wanted to get involved. But she can’t do it on her own so she’s developed a plan to involve all those willing to help from NETTP. She needs volunteers to collect non-perishable food items and then divide and distribute them to unemployment offices, senior centers and needy families. She says, “As we know, there are many families having a very hard time making money stretch. If we can help them, then that is what we should do.” This will require a great many volunteers. Please bring your food donation to the April 11 meeting or to the Tax Day Tea Party on April 15. Please ask your friends and neighbors to donate too. Volunteer to help sort and distribute the food by calling Pat at 817-306-6008 or emailing nutmeger@commonsensecitizens.net.
What I love about all of these ideas are that these people took the initiative to make them happen. They didn’t come to me and say, “Julie, here’s an idea you should do.” They said, “Julie, here’s an idea I want to do.” See the difference? What are YOU passionate about? What ideas can YOU make happen? If it’s one of the above, please volunteer today! Nothing can get done without YOU getting involved!
Thanks,
Julie McCarty
