Empower Texans will review with us what happened during the most recent session of the TX legislature and why it is so important to get conservatives on the ballot for November.

Unfortunately, several incumbents have no interest in visiting with tea party folks.  This includes Vicki Truitt, Todd Smith and Kenny Marchant.  For those races, we’ll still do a Q&A with the challenger so that you can hear what the issues are and how the candidate plans to address them, but those will occur either during an NETTP monthly meeting or tacked onto a different debate.  Each event will include time for pre-written questions, as well as questions from the audience.

Events will last one hour from 7-8pm. Names in bold font below have confirmed participation.  Names in italics have directly stated they will not attend.  Names in just a regular font (except Senate candidates) have ignored us completely.

• Feb 13:  TX House, District 98 – Vicki Truitt (i) vs Giovanni Capriglione TX (Since Truitt has not even responded to our invitation, this will be an interview of Giovanni held during our monthly meeting).
• Feb 23: TX Senate, District 9 – Goodman vs Anderson vs Hancock (pending redistricting) (venue TBD) – These candidates have not yet been invited, but we’ll update attendance plans soon.
• Mar 8:  TX Senate, District 10 – Shelton vs Hancock (pending redistricting) (venue TBD) – These candidates have not yet been invited, but we’ll update attendance plans soon.  If it ends up due to redistricting that Shelton does not have an opponent, there will be no debate this night.
• Mar 15:  TX House, District 101 – Matt Krause vs Stephanie Klick (venue TBD) – Redistricting may change the names here, and it may become D93.
• Mar 15:  US Congress, District 24 – Kenny Marchant (i) vs Grant Stinchfield (since Marchant has declined to speak with the tea party, this will be an interview conducted at the end of the D101 debate listed above).
• Mar 15:  TX House, District 92 – Todd Smith (i) vs Jonathan Stickland (since Smith has not even responded to our invitation, this will be an interview conducted at the end of the D101 debate listed above).
• Mar 22:  TX House, District 91 – Nash (i) vs Thombs vs Sapp vs Scoma vs Carlson (venue TBD) – Redistricting may change the names here.

Rick Santorum is a former two-term Congressman and three-term U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania.  Considered a strong social and fiscal conservative, Santorum was called the winner of the Sept. 22 Fox News/Google Republican Debate by a number of political reporters after he aggressively attacked Texas Gov. Rick Perry for his views on illegal immigration.

Their exchange was one of the most memorable highlights of the debate, resulting in Gov. Perry stating that anyone who objected to providing in-state tuition to illegals doesn’t “have a heart.”

Santorum then interjected that students that are illegally in this country should not be able to go to a college or university subsidized by taxpayers.

NETTP does not endorse Rick Santorum nor any other candidate for President.  We do, however, wish for all voters to seriously study each candidate very carefully based not only on their campaign promises, but more importantly on their previous actions.  Do your homework and vote wisely.

It’s FULL of details you need to read.  Please take the time to do so.  The tea party is 100% volunteer, which means we are completely dependent on grassroots members to make things happen…

Whether you did or did not make it to our meeting on precinct activism, you’ll want to take a look at the two videos from the evening:

• Giovanni’s pep talk (10 min) – We started the evening off with examples of how precinct activism changes elections.  It is the one sure-fire way to affect the vote.
• Ken’s details (20 min) – We offered an overview on what precinct activism is.
• Raz’s new app – We don’t have a video of this because the app has not yet been officially launched, but we’ll teach you how to use it at our follow-up training on Oct 29.  I know I said the Sept 26 meeting was don’t-miss, but this Oct 29 meeting is 10x’s moreso.  You will walk away with the tools you need and hands-on experience in using them so that we can fully engage in precinct activism.

So here’s our plan…  Everyone needs to take note!

• now thru Oct 29 – we’ll be working behind the scenes to conduct surveys of every voter in our 14 cities to discover who is favorable to the tea party
• Oct 29 – precinct activism training focusing on how to walk your neighborhood using a really cool new survey tool that makes walking fun and easy for both you and the voter
• Oct 29 thru Thanksgiving – Precinct Walk #1 – take a few hours over a couple weekends to walk your neighborhood, utilizing the new survey tool and targeting houses we discovered are favorable to tea party values. We’ll have door hangers to pass out inviting folks to join the tea party, as well.  The data we gather on this first round of walks will be put into use for our second round of walks.
• Jan 29 – Candidate Fair & Forums (details to be announced soon)
• shortly after Jan 29 – the NETTP PAC will announce our endorsements for State House and State Senate
• Feb 1 – Mar 6 - Precinct Walk #2 – we’ll pay a second visit to houses in our neighborhoods utliizing the data we gathered in the first walk so that we can speak to people directly about the issues they say concern them the most and provide candidate responses that address them.  This is our big Get Out The Vote push.
• Feb 18 – NETTP members will caravan down to San Antonio to walk for Joe Straus’ opponent
• Mar 6 – Election Day

Folks, I have to say… this plan illustrates how far we’ve come and how much we’ve learned and grown in just 2-year’s time.  A whole lot of effort has gone on to put it together, and we can only pull it off with your help.  Without money, we cannot conduct the surveys nor print the door hangers.  Without you walking your precincts, the surveys and door hangers are worthless.  We need you to be involved in both aspects.

The tea party is pointless if we don’t sacrifice to make a difference in the 2012 Elections.  I’m not asking you to do anything I haven’t already committed to myself, so please make your best effort.

OPTION ONE:
NETTP will be walking door-to-door in our local neighborhoods at least twice before the March 6 Primary Election.  I know, I know…  everyone thinks walking is not for them.  They don’t know what to say; they’re too busy; they are afraid of rejection; they prefer other tasks (anything but walking, right?); and on and on the excuses come.  Trust me — I’ve not only heard them all, but I’ve also FELT them all.  You are not alone.  But regardless of whatever our excuses are, we still have to man up and get the job done.  Because the fact is, knocking on doors is the number one proven way to best engage the voters.  Nothing else comes close.  Do you want to save America?  Then you have to get out and visit with people.  Period.

Thankfully, we can have fun learning together, AND we have a cool new tool to use.  Come to our training on Saturday and let’s figure this out together…

PS.  If you cannot attend Saturday’s training but are willing to knock on doors, please go ahead and update your profile stating you’ll walk, but then send me an email saying you won’t be there.  The training will be videotaped for you to watch later.

There are many opportunities to volunteer at NE Tarrant Tea Party, and many needs to fulfill.  Current NETTP Volunteer Needs Include:

Membership/Recruiting Team:  If you can help us in our efforts to grow our membership, please contact Jonathan at jstickland@hotmail.com.  This may include tasks such as developing a letter, creating ads/flyers/business cards, contacting printers, contacting newspapers and radio stations, writing scripts for robocalls, brainstorming ideas for membership drives, stuffing/stamping envelopes, creating mail lists, etc.

Set-Up Crew and Coordinator:  We need to create a team of people who can show up at our meetings early to help set up tables and chairs.  This task could be rotated amongst volunteers so that it’s not always the same people.  If you would like to volunteer for this team and/or be a coordinator for this team (responsible for scheduling the crew for each meeting), please email Julie at heyjuliesue@gmail.com.

Fundraiser Team/Coordinator:  We desperately need people to help us raise funds.  If you can coordinate this effort and/or help with this effort, please contact Julie at heyjuliesue@gmail.com

Office Help:  If you can help with general office work — making phone calls, typing memos, posting calendar events, making copies, creating documents and merges, sending emails, etc — please contact Julie at heyjuliesue@gmail.com.

Commenters/Post-ers:  When an article comes out on the tea party or on a subject of interest to the tea party, we need people to go in and post comments, tweet it, and/or facebook it.  This includes articles on our own website.  If you can help in this area, contact Fred at fdmccarty3@yahoo.com.

Booth Workers:  NETTP tries to get our name out to the public as much as possible.  One good way to do this is to set up booths at various events in our communities.  If you can help man a booth on occasion, please contact Dennis at dla2of17@charter.net.

Researchers:  From time to time we have a particular issue we need to research.  It may be info on a city policy or an event or a politician.  It ranges from very simple to fairly in-depth.  If you enjoy research, please contact Fred at fdmccarty3@yahoo.com

Clean-Up Crew:  At the end of each event, our goal is to leave the facility better than it was loaned out to us.  One person is assigned the clean-up checklist for each meeting to make sure nothing was missed.  Contact John at jvester@mss-scm.com to sign up for this team.

Kitchen Workers:  Kitchen volunteers coordinate all food and beverage for our meetings and our potlucks.  Bridget schedules these helpers to make sure each event is covered.  Email Bridget at bkenbridget@verizon.net.

Greeters and Registrars:  These folks welcome people to our meetings, pass out flyers and name tags, sign up new members, and help people find their precinct number.  Sally coordinates our greeter volunteers to make sure someone is available at all functions.  Contact her at sallysgriggs7@gmail.com.

A/V Team:  We need one coordinator and several volunteers to run the audio/visual equipment during our meetings.  The coordinator would be responsible for making sure an A/V volunteer is scheduled for each meeting.  (This way no one has to attend EVERY meeting).  Please email Julie at heyjuliesue@gmail.com if you can be the coordinator and/or a volunteer in this area.

Liaisons: introduce yourself to the assigned elected official, establish a relationship, hold face to face meetings on a quarterly basis (or more frequently as determined necessary), if applicable - attend council/board meetings as often as possible, monitor activity, and report back to the Liaison Coordinator periodically.

To commemerate the 10th anniversary of the 9-11 attack we will have a very special guest, Allen Clark, speak to us about “Civilizational Jihad” on Monday Sept. 12. Clark is a former  Military Intelligence officer with the Fifth Special Forces Group. He is a double amputee and was awarded medals for his military service to our nation. His presentation is the result of years of intensive research into a chilling, but very real problem, largely ignored by most Americans.

No-Go Zones, aka “Muslim-Only” Enclaves — IN AMERICA!

Their intentions are clear; the establishment of “No-Go Zones” or “Muslim-Only” enclaves is an unmistakable goal of Islamists. For many years they have been hard at work establishing these autonomous regions where the host government has little or no control over Muslims living there. They wish to institute Sharia law, creating their own social, economic and political structures. There is evidence that Umma mosques in the Detroit area have maintained armed militias. Others have provided training in martial arts, and guerilla warfare. Most operate under the radar of local, state and federal law enforcement officials. The FBI raided an Umma warehouse and two houses in Detroit on October 28, 2009. They arrested eleven members on charges of mail fraud, illegal possession of firearms, trafficking in stolen goods, and altering vehicle identification numbers. In the course of the raid on the warehouse, Luqman Ameen Abdullah, the ringleader of the group, opened fire on the federal agents and was killed in the ensuing gunfight. The Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations has sued the Michigan police for release of information on the shooting.

Join us as we hear from David Bond on this very important topic.  What emergencies should you prepare for?  How?  What resources are there?  Where do I start?  How much will it all cost?  David will help us work through these questions and provide some answers based on his training and experience.  Here’s a snippet of what David has planned for us…

Basically I’ll start by asking them what ‘disaster’ they feel they need to prepare for… it can be anything from unemployment to the tribulation to radioactive mutant teenage zombie turtles invading.  That’s the first obstacle many people face is identifying what the threat is, where it is, and how it might affect them.  I’ll try and point out some of the unseen threats.  We’ll discuss preparedness versus self-sufficiency.  We’ll talk a little about everyday carry items, kits, food storage, etc.  We’ll talk about communications and plans.  There are some books and magazines I’ll show and talk about.  We’ll talk about survival mindset and finally we’ll do an question and answer time.
I’m no expert in this area and I’m wary of anyone who claims to be.  I’ve spent time traveling overseas, plus have military, law enforcement, firefighting, haz-mat and some other experiences that have given me a chance to observe some pretty crazy situations.

Rick Scarborough holds a Master of Divinity Degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Louisiana Baptist Theological Seminary. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Houston Baptist University, with a double major in Political Science and Speech.

Dr. Scarborough and Tommye, his wife, have two grown children, Misty and Richard, and one daughter in Heaven, Kathryn who finished her assignment here in 2004 at 25 years of age. Misty is married to Daniel Allmond; they have two children, Micah and Alexis.  Richard is married to Anny; they have twins, Richard Wayne III and Kaylee Anne.

From 1990 to June 2002, Dr. Scarborough was the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Pearland located on the southeast side of the Houston Metroplex. During his twelve year ministry there, the church baptized over 2,000 people and relocated to a beautiful new 27-acre campus and facilities in March 2001; featuring Eagle Heights Christian Academy with faculty and student population of over 300 and Trinity Oaks Retirement Center with housing for 85 independent and assisted living units.

In 1992, Pastor Dr. Scarborough gained national recognition when he exposed the contents of a disturbing assembly program at the local high school. Under the auspices of an “AIDS Presentation,” a young lady, sponsored by the AIDS Foundation of Houston, candidly discussed every sex act imaginable expressing the opinion (presented as fact) that “safe sex” was attainable by using condoms. Dr. Scarborough recorded the assembly and then made transcripts available to his congregation the following Sunday morning. The resulting furor that erupted caught the eye of the national media.

Dr. Scarborough mobilized his congregation during the following months to make significant changes in Pearland. Members began running for public office, as well as volunteering for various organizations beyond traditional “Christian ministry” seeking to become “salt and light” in their community. National Public Radio produced a two-part feature on Dr. Scarborough during which he was dubbed, “The Rising Star of the Religious Right”.

In 1996 he published the widely acclaimed 252-page book appropriately entitled, Enough is Enough; a Call to Christian Involvement. Other published works include, In Defense of Mixing Church and State and It All Depends on What Is…Is. In 2007 he published Liberalism Kills Kids.

In 1998, he founded Vision America, an organization whose mission is to “inform and mobilize Pastors and their congregations to become salt and light, becoming pro-active in restoring Judeo-Christian values in America.” The advisory board of Vision America includes notable Christian leaders such as Don Wildmon and Dr. Tim LaHaye.

On May 9, 2005, the Washington Post carried a front page story in the Sunday addition on the effective work that Dr. Scarborough and the Judeo-Christian Council is accomplishing in their efforts to confront Judicial tyranny and mobilize pastors.

Dr. Scarborough’s work has been featured in numerous articles and publications around the nation. A partial listing includes the New York Times, Washington Post, Kansas City Star, Dallas Morning News, Houston Chronicle, Boston Globe and the Congressional Quarterly.

Dr. Scarborough has appeared on Larry King Live, Fox News, CBS Evening News and numerous other television and radio programs.  The work of Vision America has been featured in several documentaries and specials such as CNN’s award winning special God’s Warriors and the HBO documentary, Friends of God.

Dr. Scarborough and Vision America have been featured on Focus on the Family with Dr. James Dobson three times.

Dr. Scarborough regularly speaks in churches, rallies, and political conventions.
